Types of Coverage Under Medicare

Medicare is a health insurance coverage for Americans over the age of 65, young people with disabilities and people suffering from end stage renal disease. It is administered by the United States government since 1965. Medicare covers a wide spectrum of conditions. In general coverage under medicare include; surgery, lab testing, doctor’s visit and supplies such as wheelchair. It is divided into different plans considered as:

Medicare Part A

Under part A the coverage include hospital care, skilled nursing facility, Nursing home care, Hospices, and home health services. There are some people with medicare coverage that are on an advantage plan. They do receive the basic Medicare coverage. You should always consult with the US health department to obtain clarification as to which coverage you may qualify. The factors that influence certain coverage include; federal and state laws, national coverage decisions, and local coverage from different companies applying for medicare

Medicare Part B

Part B is divided into two different types of coverage. 1) Services necessary to diagnose and treat a certain condition and 2) preventive services.

Generally, part B covers clinical research, medical equipment, ambulance services, second opinion before surgery, limited outpatient prescription drugs and mental heath services for in-patients, out-patients and temporary hospitalization.

Certain elements are not covered in either part A or part B such as long-term care, dental or eyes check up, cosmetic surgery, acupuncture, routine foot care and hearing aids and exams for fitting. Some of these services are covered under other medicare options but not all of them. You will need to pay personally for some of the above or obtain insurance coverage. Under medicare coverage, you also have to pay deductible, co-insurance and co-payments.

Medicare Health Plan

Under the health plan, private companies have signed contracts with Medicare authorities to provide services of part A and B for people enrolled in anyone of the plans. The health plan include the Medicare Cost Plan, the Demonstration/Pilot Program plan and the All-inclusive Plan for elderly (PACE). All the different types have medicare plan have obligatory coverage for emergency and must also include all the services of the original medicare except hospices. Some plans have the option of not covering some costs of medicare that do not seem to be medically necessary

The medicare advantage plan has some extra services in certain circumstances that could include vision, hearing, dental as well as sometimes health and wellness programs. There are list of service providers on the directories that are specifically designated for providing medicare coverage. It is necessary to verify or ask the US Health Department for information.
